A BACKWARDS JOURNEY
From new south wales
i have travelled
back into the land
of myself
where the ruins
of the O'Briens'
castle stand
in a land brittle
as sunshine
calmer than time
encompassing
brian boru;
the high kings of
Munster
& ireland
& all the O'Briens
descended from
kings
floating like driftwood
on the four oceans
of the world.
The sea
is around the island
but there is drought
on the stonefields
where
wildflowers hint
at colours vague
as windshadows moving
over stone.
In my land there are
drought, dreams and
memory
